Artist's Statement

"From the viewpoint of an artist, living and learning in Taos, has provided me with more time to paint the unique and beautiful subject matter of New Mexico and the Southwest."

"The painting Canyon Run, I was inspired by some of the old adobes, wagons, and on life as it once was, but disappearing from our lives. Capturing these moments of the old west is something worthwhile for me in my new work."

"I prefer large canvases, the desert and/or mountain environment and prefer painting in oils. Some structures built by man compliment the environment and I will include these in some of my future work. Landscapes by themselves, I believe, become more spirited and powerful when the weather creates a spark of light, color and intrigue."

The Hispanic culture, rich in both tradition and architecture as well as the Native American's I have known, inspire my work. Many times I paint from memory and/or sketches and utilize techniques I have accumulated over the many years I have painted.

"My further objectives are to capture on my canvases the essence and spirit of the places I explore. These specifically include the Grand Canyon in Arizona as well as other parts of New Mexico."

Originally from the Netherlands, Mr. Pfammatter settled in the Southwest in 1976. After leaving Phoenix in 1992, he built his studio and now resides in Taos New Mexico. He also has lived and painted on both east and west coasts.

"These traditional landscapes have a non-traditional perspective. This technique of choosing an unusual and unexpected perspective was invented in the Renaissance and it makes the observer feel more as part of the painting."

In the midfifties my family traveled the old road Route 66. Those memories of that time still inspire me to paint the places along that road, some of which still exist today.
